Huntsville Has A New Music Venue And Its First Concert Sold Out

St Stephens Music Hall

After months of anticipation and hurdles, Huntsville music enthusiasts have something to cheer about: St. Stephens Music Hall is set to open its doors soon. Located at the heart of Campus No. 805, this new venue promises to be a vibrant addition to the city’s cultural scene.

John Chamness and Evan Billiter, the brains behind St. Stephens Music Hall, have been on a journey to bring their vision to life for over 15 months. Inspired by the Grateful Dead song “St. Stephen,” the venue aims to provide a platform for original music, with a focus on emerging talents and touring bands.

The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. From navigating zoning requirements to securing a liquor license, Chamness and Billiter have had their hands full. However, their perseverance has paid off, with the Alabama ABC Board recently granting approval for the venue’s liquor license, marking the final step before opening day.

Located in the space formerly occupied by Offbeat Coffee Studio at 2620 Clinton Avenue, St. Stephens Music Hall exudes a cozy vibe, reminiscent of Huntsville’s beloved Kaffeeklatsch Bar. Adorned with decades of band photos, flyers, and eclectic decor, the venue sets the stage for intimate and memorable musical experiences.

With an official capacity of 80, St. Stephens aims to differentiate itself from other local establishments by prioritizing ticketed shows and cover charges. Billiter emphasizes the importance of supporting live music by investing in artists and creating a space where music lovers can truly connect with the performers.

The venue’s inaugural lineup includes Firewater Tent Revival and Webb Wilder, promising an eclectic mix of genres and styles. Additionally, local band Shane Davis Group will kick off the venue’s first show with a record-release party for their debut EP “Concerning Comfort.”

Tickets for Shane Davis’ record release last weekend went on sale for $10 a pop last week and sold out.

Despite initial setbacks, including a change in location from a former church building on Stokes Street to Campus No. 805, Chamness and Billiter remain undeterred in their mission to provide a platform for Huntsville’s vibrant music community. The move to Campus No. 805 offers advantages such as increased foot traffic and access to additional event space, ensuring that St. Stephens Music Hall is poised for success.

As Huntsville eagerly awaits the opening of St. Stephens Music Hall, anticipation is running high. With a commitment to showcasing original talent and creating memorable experiences, Chamness and Billiter are ready to make their mark on the city’s music scene. So, get ready to rock, Huntsville—St. Stephens Music Hall is about to take center stage.
