I-565 Is Finally Getting Widened
The Alabama Department of Transport (ALDOT) has announced that it is seeking bids to widen parts of I-565 to six lanes.
Specifically, ALDOT is planning to widen the 5-mile stretch of roads from County Line Road to Wall Triana. That stretch of road is currently four lanes, two in each direction.
The I-565 construction plan also includes widening the bridge at Bradford Creek (west of Exit 9) along with the bridge at Intergraph Way and the Norfolk Southern railroad (east of Exit 9)
Several contractors have placed bids for the project, ranging from $28 million to $35 million.
Once a contractor has been approved, construction is expected to take around two years to complete.
Based on traffic reports, there are around 70,000 vehicles that travel this stretch of I-565 every day.
