Table of Contents
Brahan Spring Park
- Address: 3251-3699 SW Ivy Ave, Huntsville, AL 35805
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Beginner
You can’t go wrong with the oldest disc golf course in the state, established in 1976. The Brahan Spring disc golf course is perfect for beginners and casual players.
This wooded course has no undergrowth, making it easy to move around without obstructions. It’s truly one of the best disc golf courses in Huntsville.
I’m a pretty avid disc golfer and have played this course countless times. It’s probably my favorite disc golf course in Huntsville because the trees make the holes challenging, but they aren’t too long.
There’s clear signage marking each hole and a nice variety of different shots to test your skills.
Disc golfers can also enjoy frequent events at Braham Spring Park, like the Rocket City Chain Gang Summer League events.
Indian Creek
- Address: 335 Harvestwood Ct, Madison, AL 35758
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Advanced
Indian Creek is technically located in Madison, but it’s only a 20-minute drive from Downtown Huntsville and is one of the nicest disc golf courses near Huntsville.
Specifically, it’s a great course for experienced disc golfers. This challenging course is located on 50 acres of woodland and fields and has a nice mix of holes.
The course has open and wooded holes, four water hazards, and an out-of-bounds (OB) hazard.
I’ve played Indian Creek a handful of times with my buddies. It’s located in a public park, so the course is well-maintained. As I mentioned, though, it is one of the more difficult courses in town, and there are some pretty long holes!
The tees are concrete, giving you a good footing when you take the first throw toward the DISCatcher Pro baskets that mark the end of each hole.
If you’ve been playing disc golf for a while and are looking for a more advanced course, you should head to Indian Creek.
Mastin Lake
- Address: 3317 Watson Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35810
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Intermediate
Mastin Lake is another great place to play disc golf in Huntsville. It’s technically located in a public park, though every time I have been, it has not been very busy.
As far as disc golf courses go, Mastin Lake is challenging, with plenty of elevation changes across the course. One hole has an elevation change of 35 feet!
There are plenty of wooded holes on this course, where you’ll have to curve your disc to reach the basket, making it one of the more difficult disc golf courses in Huntsville.
Each of the 18 holes has concrete tees. The holes are clearly marked, and some offer various teeing-off positions to reach the basket from various distances.
Southside Park
- Address: 16159 Chaney Thompson Rd SE, Huntsville, AL 35803
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Beginner to intermediate
Southside Park is one of the best disc golf courses in Huntsville for beginners, although more experienced disc golfers will also find a fun round waiting for them here.
The course contains a variety of shorter woodland holes where you can showcase your technical skills and longer grass holes where a driver is needed to cover the distance. Fortunately, each of the holes is very clearly marked, so you can plan your strategy before stepping onto the tee.
Just be warned, you don’t want to go to Southside after it’s rained. I’ve played this course many times, and it gets waterlogged after a good rain and turns into a marsh.
Redstone Arsenal
- Address: Redstone Arsenal Disc Golf Course, Huntsville, AL 35808
- Number of holes: 21
- Difficulty level: Intermediate
This 21-hole course makes use of Mach III Targets and has concrete tees, though some are in rough shape.
It may look challenging at first, but it’s one of the best disc golf courses in Huntsville for those with intermediate skills who want to practice on a more challenging course.
Since the course is located on the arsenal, you’ll need to be in the military or a federal employee to gain access.
Alternatively, you can stop by Gate 9 and get a free visitor pass. Or, if you’re a Rocket City Chain Gang member, you can get access the course on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays!
Due to its location, I’ve only played the Redstone Arsenal course a handful of times. It’s definitely one of the more challenging courses, but it is fun and is a great way to switch things up.
John Hunt Park
- Address: 2305 Airport Rd SW, Huntsville, AL 35801
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Intermediate to advanced
Are you ready to test your throwing arm?
If you’re looking for a disc golf course in Huntsville with long fairways and plenty of out-of-bounds areas, then John Hunt Park is the place to go!
This is the newest course in Huntsville and is a great place to test our new drivers or see how far you can throw your disc. This was once a popular golf course in Huntsville, which explains why the fairways are so extensive.
I’ve only played John Hunt Park a handful of times, and it’s not my favorite course because I cannot throw the disc very far. And since most of the holes are wide open fairways, it’s just not a good fit for my game.
The course also has a few different layouts. The blue layout is perfect for pro players, while the white layout is shorter, making it a good option for intermediate or recreational players.
The longest hole is hole 18, which is 865 ft (blue) and 703 ft (white), respectively.
UAH
- Address: 301 Sparkman Drive, Huntsville, AL 35899
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Intermediate to advanced
This well-kept Huntsville disc golf course in Huntsville is located at UAH and is fun for students and visitors to the campus.
One thing to note is that the course is open to the public, and you do not have to be a student or registered guest to play. You can simply park in the parking lot and start playing.
The 18 holes have a mixture of concrete and grass tees, with some ponds to clear and woody patches along the course. The holes require a variety of different throws, so it’s not ideal for beginners who are still figuring out how to handle a disc.
Disc golfers with a longer range will particularly enjoy this course, although medium-range golfers with an accurate arm will also enjoy it.
If you like a challenge, this course has some fun water hazards. Over the years, I’ve thrown multiple discs into the pond and even jumped in to try and find my disc one time!
Sharon Johnston Park
- Address: 783 Coleman Rd, New Market, AL 35761
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: All skill levels
If you’re really passionate about disc golf, you can spend the whole weekend playing it at Sharon Johnston Park, thanks to the campground in the park. It’s just 30 mins from Huntsville.
This lightly wooded, moderately hilly park is great for all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced players. But beginners, take note: You may lose a couple of discs here!
This is a newer disc golf course near Huntsville, opening in 2023. As this is a public park, you can expect well-maintained lawns, concrete tees, a brook, drinking water fountains along the course, and plenty of seating areas.
There’s even a “missing disc basket” by hole 1 if you pick up someone’s lost disc. The longest hole is hole 18, a par 4 at 645 feet.
Monte Sano State Park
- Address: 5105 SE Nolen Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801
- Number of holes: 18 holes and an 8-hole mini-course
- Difficulty level: Moderate to advanced
This wooded Huntsville disc golf course is highly technical, with lots of tight turns, trees, elevation changes, and tunnel shots.
The main downside is that you have to pay to access the course. It costs $5 for adults, $2 for children under 11 or seniors, and is free for active or retired military members.
First-time disc golfers will have a tough time at this course and might be better off looking for more beginner-friendly courses in the area. However, if you’re a more skilled player, it’s easily one of the best disc golf courses in Huntsville.
Fortunately, as this is a state park, there is plenty to do outside of playing disc golf. And they have a fun mini-course with tiny baskets.
About half of the holes have a short and long layout, ranging from 201 ft (hole 4) to 522 ft (hole 9).
Chapman Pines
- Address: 1263 US-72, Huntsville, AL 35811
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Advanced
The course creators at the Land Trust Chapman Pines Nature Reserve really love trees because they didn’t remove any of them to create the fairways at Chapman Pines.
That means that most of the shots at this course are really technical and tight. It’s definitely one of the best disc golf courses in Huntsville for advanced players.
Just a heads up, there are carpet tees that can get a bit slippery when wet! The DISCatcher Pro buckets are well-maintained and clearly visible through the trees.
New Hope City Park
- Address: New Hope Civitan Park, Johnson Ave, New Hope, AL 35760
- Number of holes: 18
- Difficulty level: Beginner
Just a quick 30-minute drive from Huntsville is the New Hope City Park, home to one of the best disc golf courses near Huntsville.
The course is mainly open, with some lightly wooded areas and barely any elevation changes. It is walkable, which makes it easy for young players to practice their disc golf skills.
Some mandos on the course will also offer a bit of a challenge and help develop your throwing skills. These mandos, as well as some out-of-bounds spots, make it a fun course for more experienced players, too.
