If you’re looking for the best golf courses in Huntsville, you’ve come to the right spot. The Rocket City is home to some great golf courses and offers a nice variety of greens.
I’ve lived in Huntsville my whole life and have put together a list of some of the best courses in town. Below you’ll find public courses, private courses, and even some courses that are just outside of Huntsville.

Best Public Golf Courses in Huntsville
Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove
Perhaps one of the most well-known and best golf courses in Huntsville is the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Hampton Cove. It has 54 holes, broken down into three separate courses, the River, Highlands, and the Short Course.
Not only is it one of the nicest courses in town, but it’s also one of the best public golf courses and doesn’t require a membership fee.
If you’re an avid golfer, they host tournaments on a regular basis and have a variety of courses that offer different experiences.
Pricing is a bit complicated, as there are a bunch of different packages available. Be prepared to pay $100+ to play though.
Sunset Landing Golf Course
The Sunset Landing Golf Course has 6,803 yards of grass fairways and bentgrass greens and is a par 72 course. It’s one of the best golf courses in Huntsville and is unique because it is located adjacent to the Huntsville International Airport.
Their prices are very affordable, at $23-$45 for 18 holes and $16-$33 for 9 holes. After you complete your game, make sure you try their full-service bar and grille that is on site.
This course also offers clinics for kids 15 years and younger and a ladies’ clinic.
Links at Redstone Golf Course
The Links at Redstone Golf Course is on the arsenal and is accessible to those who live or work on the arsenal. You can also register for a guest pass to gain access. If you have the chance to visit, it’s definitely one of the best golf courses in Huntsville.
Besides the course itself, they offer a pro shop, a driving range, private lessons, and tournaments. Like many other courses, they also have a short-order restaurant to grab a bite on-site.
Prices start at $26 for 9 holes and $38 for 18 holes.
Best Private Golf Courses in Huntsville
Huntsville Country Club
The Huntsville Country Club has been around the area for 90 years. What separates this course from the others in the area is that this has many other things besides just a training area or a pro shop.
You need a membership to play there, but with it, you get access to their pool and casual dining experience. If you’re a first responder, educator, or active-duty military you can get a 20% discount on the monthly dues.
This is one of the best private golf courses in Huntsville, and if you play regularly it could be a good investment!
Valley Hill Country Club
Another one of the best private golf courses in Huntsville is Valley Hill Country Club. It’s located off of Bailey Cove in South Huntsville and offers a pool, training area, and a 27-hole course to its members.
It has also become a popular place to host weddings and other special events. Here’s a fun fact for you, I had my senior prom at Valley Hill.
Monthly membership dues fluctuate but are usually around $150-$350 depending on your membership class.
The Ledges
Rounding out our list of the best private golf courses in Huntsville is The Ledges. It offers 27 holes, along with fine dining and swimming, and has the ability to host events.
Located at the top of the mountain in Jones Valley, this location is one of the more prestige in the area. It has a dress code and etiquette rules and is definitely one of the nicest in town.
Monthly fees fluctuate but are around $250. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this course and encourage you to visit if you ever get the chance!
Best Golf Courses Near Huntsville
Point Mallard Golf Course
The first golf course to visit outside of Huntsville is the Point Mallard Golf Course in Decatur. Open year-round and located in the same area as the Point Mallard Water Park, this course offers 18 holes and a pro shop.
Not only is it one of the best golf courses near Huntsville, but it also has an added bonus. While you’re playing golf, your kids can spend the day at Point Mallard’s water park.
Green fees are between $19-$31 for 9 holes and $26-$45 for 18 holes.
The Colonial Golf Club
Located in Meridianville, Colonial Golf Club is about 17 miles outside of the Rocket City and can make for one of the best day trips from Huntsville.
Along with their 18-hole course, they also host tournaments and have a nice clubhouse facility. If you play a lot of golf and have never been, it’s worth checking out.
Green fees are $19-$35 for 09 holes and $24-$50 for 18 holes.
Southern Gayles
The last course on our list of the best golf courses near Huntsville is located in Athens. Southern Gayles has 18 holes and plays 7,070 total yards with a par of 72.
Since opening in the mid-1990s, the course has undergone many changes to become what it is today. They offer training, online tee time booking, and their restaurant The Grill.
Green Fees are $18-$26 for 9 holes and $22-$48 for 18 holes.

Madison Golf Center
While not technically a golf course, the Madison Golf Center is probably the best place in town to practice your swing.
It’s located off Lime Quarry Road in Madison and is a great place to work on your drives or even take lessons if you are a beginner.
I’ve been to Madison Golf Center a few times over the years with some friends and have always had a good experience.
Topgolf
Yes, Topgolf! It is not a physical golf course, but it is a place you can go to practice your swing in a fun environment or just a place to have fun with friends and family.
Not only does it make for a great date night in Huntsville, but it’s also a great place to go with friends and large groups.
I’ve been a few times, and it is always a great time. We always order some food and enjoy the upbeat, fun energy it offers.
